Fair Agro Zoo Technical Regional Empowerment in Tanzania

RUATI collaborated with NDALEDA NGO, one of the project partners, to implement a project funded by COPE (Italy) that aimed to encourage synergies between the private and public sectors in the Ruvuma Region to develop the dairy industry and improve the quality of local veterinary services through training, research, new employment creation, and support for consortium, entrepreneurship, with a special focus on the gender component During collaboration RUATI was responsible on the following activities
• Identifying areas for collaboration between regional veterinary services, training institutions, producer groups, and the Ruvuma region’s dairy industry for sustainable pastoral resource management, animal husbandry, and cooperative entrepreneurship
• Improved productivity and zoo technical genetic quality through regulated reproduction techniques
• Facilitating the development of the milk supply chain through technical training of breeders; Increased the safety of animal-derived goods, as well as farmers’ knowledge of sanitary practices.

Pest Management Piloting

In partnership with VIAMO, we conducted Pest Management pilot study in Ruvuma, Objective was to assess the Effectiveness of mobile phone-based technology for Pest and Disease Diagnosis tools among smallholder farmers on maize crop at Mkongotema and Gumbiro villages in Songea District. This study involved 100 farmers recorded in a database with their basic information ideally farmers household GPS coordinates, mobile numbers, gender and ages
RUATI was responsible to identify farmers and organize all field logistics including conduction of farmers training on Good Agronomic Practices, preparations and distribution and facilitation/translations of extension materials on the use of Mobile technology. The end of this pilot, mobile tools functioned well and 100 farmers obtained knowledge and the tool was helpful in Maize Management.

Agro dealers Training (TPRI)

RUATI in collaboration with Ruvuma Region Commissioners Office and Tropical Pesticide Research Institute (TPRI), Coordinate Specialized training on the Proper and safe use of Pesticide to 54 agro dealers within Ruvuma region.
The training was conducted on 06th – 11thAugust, 2021 at Heritage Cottage venue, Songea. RUATI was the main organizers for promoting and advertising this training, RUATI aim was to improve capacity of agro dealers on delivering better services to farmers of Ruvuma. At the end of this training 54 Agro dealers was trained which will help them to meet requirement for doing pesticide business and agro dealers service delivery and extension services to the farmers improved.
